Objectives of Uthando Foundation

Uthando's main objective is:

"To raise moral and financial support for children who are infected or affected by the HIV/AIDS crisis in South Africa."  

The following sub-objectives stem from this:

• Providing basic needs such as food, (anti-retroviral) medicines, shelter and education for children who are orphaned because of HIV/AIDS or whose parents are unable to take care of them because of the disease.
• Improving the quality of live for children who are infected or affected by HIV/AIDS, not only by providing the needs mentioned above, but also by offering the much needed distraction and fun for these children.
• Increasing knowledge of HIV/AIDS in the local communities by organising courses and workshops about the disease, as well as projects that help local people to provide for their own basic needs.
• Increasing awareness about the situation in South Africa, and the need to act upon this and help the local population.
• Initiating and maintaining contact between Dutch and South African children, aiming to make children aware of each other's culture, habits and problems, and in this way create more understanding for one another's living conditions.

These objectives are realised by organising different actions and starting and supporting several projects.
