Imagine
… of every three people you know, one is infected with HIV/AIDS … the average life expectancy of these people is 30 - 45 years … every 15 seconds one of these people dies.
This is what is happening in Southern Africa. Families are struggling to cope. They can hardly afford the high cost of medical care and funerals. Hospitals are overwhelmed by the great number of ill people. A large part of the working population is being swiped away. The result is a generation of orphans of immense proportions.
Without the protection of family and institutions these children are on their own. They risk getting in touch with violence, abuse and exploitation. Who will take care of these children?
The volunteers of Uthando have worked in this region. They have seen for themselves the devestating effects of AIDS. They have seen the faces and heard the stories. They have shown that a small effort can make a huge difference. They fight to give these children a childhood. Will you help?
