Baby home

At the end of 2004, Lean on Me started their Baby Home, a center that cares for babies who have lost their parents or have been abandoned by their mother. Currently, the home cares for five children, who are taken care of by two house mothers who work in shifts of four days. The building that houses the Baby Home was donated by the South African rotary, as part of a small village with several orphanages and care centers.

The children of the baby home are:

How did Uthando help?

Uthando has helped the Baby Home by providing a grant in March 2005. During a working visit, Uthando bought medical supplies with this grant, varying from suction pumps and plasters to drips and cottonwool. Because of having these medical supplies, the Baby Home is now higher classified by the South African government, enabling them to also take care of sick babies that are brought in, something they weren't allowed to do before.
