Where are the children now?
The old orphanage of the children burnt down, the new home not yet rebuilt. Where are the children now?
Temporary accommodation
A few years ago Agape was donated a shipping container. This container was improved a lot by improved by volunteers, until it became a decent accommodation for the children. Because the orphanage itself was too small for all the children to live in, it was used as a secondary building.
Even though the orphanage was deemed uninhabitable because of the fire, the container remained undamaged. While Agape searched for temporary residence, the children 'lived' inn the container for the first period after the fire. They had a roof over their heads and beds to sleep in, but the container is far from large enough to properly accommodate all of them. In addition to that, it has no heating and no running water.
Later on, a local church gave Agape permission to use one of it's buildings. This accommodation was very good, but the children could only stay there for a fixed amount of time. At the end of December 2005 the building had to be used for something else and the children had to move out.
In the meanwhile, three extra containers have been donated to Agape, two large ones and a smaller one. These containers at least take care of the lack of space for the time being. But however great the effort that's put into them to renovate them, containers are still no place for children to live in.
Partly because of the visit of the children to Holland, enough money has been raised now to restart building. Read more about the plans for the new Agape.
